Both achieved their vow, John in a spectacular way which no one could have imagined - as one of the greatest figures in popular music history - while Bill coined the phrase Mersey Beat and launched the newspaper of that name.
In this book, the magical music landscape of Liverpool through John's early life is explored - from his birthplace to his childhood homes, to his relationships with his friends and lovers, from Aunt Mimi to Cynthia Lennon, from his mother Julia to Paul McCartney, his popular haunts such as Ye Cracke, Gambier Terrace and the Blue Angel Club, to the early gigs from the Casbah to the Cavern.

Liverpool was such a major influence on John that wherever he travelled it was always with him and he was to pay tribute to his favourite city in songs such as 'In My Life' and 'Strawberry Fields Forever'.
